Volunteer for Alzheimer research

There is no cure for Alzheimer’s disease and the treatments are still very limited.  But the search is underway for better ways to detect and treat the disease and hopefully find a cure. Some of that work is being done right here in the Seattle area.

Researchers need volunteers to take part in these drug trials.

The Alzheimer’s Association offers a free service called TrailMatch that makes it easy for families to locate clinical trials based on diagnosis, stage of the disease and location.

The Colombia connection for Alzheimer

We wrote about the testing done in Colombia about three years ago HERE and highlighted the article in the NYtimes HERE .

In our link below a TV documentary with an update on this large family with Alzheimer and the mutation in the disease that may yet hold the key to a solution. The study is planned to be concluded in 2020 so nothing goes fast with this horrible disease but at least there is optimism about a potential new path for finding a cure.

Red wine for Alzheimer

The story is not new, but again, this time from Texas, there is confirmation that a compounds that can be found in Red Wine might be beneficial in fighting memory loss. In this study the scientists discover that the Red Wine component improves memory function and…….mood function in rats but we already knew that the latter worked for most humans right?

Saved by the Sound of Music

Researchers have found that singing sessions, with hits like from the Sound of Music, are helpful. Specially the people who sing along with the session show an improvement in their memory skills. Looks like an easy enough activity for Alzheimer homes to set up.
