Leaking blood vessels are a risk for Alzheimer

An MRI study found those experiencing mild problems with thinking and memory had much leakier blood vessels in the hippocampus. “This is exactly the area of the brain that is involved with learning and memory,” says Berislav Zlokovic, the study’s senior author and director of the Zilkha Neurogenetic Institute at the University of Southern California.

Canada warns about Donepezil, an Alzheimer drug

The prescription medication has been linked to a muscle breakdown called rhabdomyolysis and the neurological disorder NMS (neuroleptic malignant syndrome) in some patients.

Donepezil, sold under the brand names Aricept and Aricept RDT as well as generic equivalents, is used to treat the symptoms of mild to severe Alzheimer’s disease.
