Percussionist Dave Roth, whose parents have been diagnosed with Alzheimer, is trying to make their lives a little easier. When Roth saw “Alive Inside,” a documentary that followed a social worker introducing music into the lives of people with dementia, he was inspired

After seeing his mother’s progress with the music, Roth thinks every patient with Alzheimer’s could benefit the same way. He’s started a drive to collect MP3 players and distribute them to those suffering from Alzheimer. The drive runs through August 19th, and there are several drop-off locations if you’d like to donate.

Epilepsy drug useful for Alzheimer?

Lots of ifs and buts though as the Alzheimer is not the Human form but genetically modified and mice are not humans but still, we need some hope and continue to encourage research into novel ways to cure this terrible disease.

Stem cells injection to help Alzheimer’s

In an experiment with rats, stem cells were injected in their brains and seemed to restore memory functions. This is not the first experiment with stem cells but it is the first where the treatment was shown to have a positive effect on memory functions. Lots more research will be necessary to get this treatment to be accepted as a way to treat Alzheimer’s but it is yet another option we will be watching.

Food for Alzheimer’s

Nestle has bought a stake in U.S. firm Accera to support the rollout of a medical food brand for Alzheimer’s patients, as the world’s biggest food group seeks to expand in the health and nutrition business

Two Proteins that cause Alzheimer’s

Still relatively little is known about exactly what makes Alzheimer’s disease destroy the brain. Now scientists have at least agreed that two proteins, that long have had separate research groups looking at them,  together are a major cause of Alzheimer’s and that our best bet to fight off Alzheimer’s may well be to prevent both proteins from developing their harmful works.
