Alzheimer; News from the web:
Scientists at Johns Hopkins have done experiments with a pace maker, the brain variety, that is normally used to alleviate Parkinson symptoms in a patient with Alzheimer and they are “cautiously optimistic” about the results.
Wide use is still years down the line but this may just counter the disappointing results from a number of medicine.

In his new book, “Mind-Wars,” Coulam shares how, after three years of research into cutting-edge medical science, he created his own holistic regimen, including diet, exercise, and mental training, that staved off the disease and reversed the diagnosis.

Alzheimer; News from the web:
A new study from the University of Dalhousie in Halifax. They have found a novel way to go about attacking the disease. In their own words:
There may exist endogenous compounds within the brain that play a role in inhibiting aggregation. We have devised a unique in silico screening strategy of endogenous molecules within the human brain, with special emphasis on amino acid metabolic pathways, to identify compounds with the potential to inhibit Aβ aggregation. Metabolites of tryptophan were computationally identified through this screening as potential therapeutics and were optimized via molecular modelling to determine their capacity to bind to Aβ. The most successful molecule identified was 3-hydroxyanthranilic acid (3-HAA). This endogenous molecule was then computationally explored to design novel analogues of 3-HAA with the goal of improving Aβ antiaggregant activity. These combined in silico methods of screening, identifying, and successfully “analoguing” an endogenous molecule of the brain as an AD therapeutic has yielded positive results and a novel approach to computer-aided drug design.

We continue to be skeptical of claims that there would be a wonderpil to cure Alzheimer.
Well the Times of India, cites the Daily Mail to have found British scientist who have done just that and invented a wonderpil that will be on the market in a few years. We love to believe it, but have been disappointed before.

Alzheimer; News from the web:
Dr Ruth has written a book on Alzheimer caregivers. Here is what the Huffington post said about it:
She took everything she knows about behavioral therapy and applied it to Alzheimer’s caregiving in Part One, Advice from Dr. Ruth. In Part Two, Standing on the Shoulders of Giants, she presents information she’s gleaned from friends and acquaintances, her own research and communications with experts in the field. Although she says, “Thankfully, I have not had to deal with caring for a loved one with Alzheimer’s,” from reading this book one would assume she has had several years of experience doing just that.
