Well the article in the Huffington post this morning certainly burst the bubble of many people who had relied on this herb.

A trail in France, an article in the Lancet for Neurology and an opinion from the Alzheimer association killed the hype and the consensus is that anyone who buys this over the counter herb in the expectation that it will do anything to slow down or prevent the disease, is wasting their money.

Trouble sleeping? It may be Alzheimer’s

In a study with mice, the scientists at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis found that trouble with sleeping may be an early sign of building up of plaques in the brain that is generally correlated with Alzheimer.

Finding an early signal can be important as it will help keeping the disease under control or at least slowing it down. This in itself does not yet indicate a new way to get to a medicine of some sort.

Alzheimer treatment compound found!

Researchers from Cleveland Clinic’s Lerner Research Institute and Anesthesiology Institute found that the compound MDA7 induced beneficial immune responses that limited the development of Alzheimer’s disease.

Treatment with the compound restored cognition, memory and synaptic plasticity – a key neurological foundation of learning and memory – in an animal model.

“Cleveland Clinic dedicated two years of research into the examination of this compound and our findings show it could represent a novel therapeutic target in the treatment of Alzheimer’s disease,” Mohamed Naguib, lead researcher said in a statement.
