Research has found that cosmic radiation, of the type you will get lots of when you head for Mars, can cause Alzheimer.

This is bad news as it may take some time to get to Mars and you would be exposed for a long time. The other side of the coin is that not many people will travel to Mars and not any time shortly so maybe we should save our research money to solve Alzheimer on Earth.

Pacemaker for Alzheimer

Scientists at Johns Hopkins have done experiments with a pace maker, the brain variety, that is normally used to alleviate Parkinson symptoms in a patient with Alzheimer and they are “cautiously optimistic” about the results.

Wide use is still years down the line but this may just counter the disappointing results from a number of medicine.

Immune system transmitter blockade can reduce Alzheimer

Pathological changes typical of Alzheimer’s disease were significantly reduced in mice by blockade of an immune system transmitter. A research team from Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin and the University of Zurich has just published a new therapeutic approach in fighting Alzheimer’s disease in the current issue of Nature Medicine. This approach promises potential in prevention, as well as in cases where the disease has already set in.
