Pippa Kelly made me aware of the great work the Life Story Network does.

Discovering George Arthur Moss through his Life Story Book reminded me that we are all so much more than the aspect we present to a stranger for the very first time.  When we’re independent and can communicate clearly, this doesn’t much matter, but if and when our health fails or for some reason we become dependent on others, it is vital for them to know who we are.  Of course it is.  Put like that, it sounds so obvious, so simple, so human.

Become a Dementia Friend

The UK government has launched the Dementia Friends scheme, which has been adapted from a similar program in Japan that recruited three million volunteers.

Meanwhile about a million people have been trained as Dementia Friend.

  • Problems following conversations
  • Forgetting the names of friends or objects
  • Repeating yourself
  • Problems with thinking or reasoning
  • Confusion in familiar places

Sessions in workplaces and town halls across the country will explain what dementia is, what it is like to have the condition and what people can do to help if they meet someone with the symptoms.
