Undercover Alzheimer’s patient

A film director went undercover in an Alzheimer’s home for 5 days and hold a symposium to, among other things, tell about his experiences.

“Keep in mind that everybody living with dementia — and I constantly use that phrase, people living with dementia — they are still individuals, are still persons and that’s starting point from which we need to relate to them,” he said. “Even people with more advance dementia are absolutely still there, we just need to know how to reach them.”

Home Instead Senior Care, which provides non-medical care and assistance to senior citizens in Dayton, is beginning the Alzheimer’s Friendly Business certification program in hopes of getting patients and caregivers out of the house and back into the community.

Alzheimer’s care, there is an app for that

If you care for an Alzheimer’s patient you will recognize this situation; you have visited your mom with Alzheimer’s and after your visit your sister visits her. She asks mom; “Has my brother been visiting you lately” and the mom will most passionately say things like: “your brother!!! haven’t heard from him in months!!”…. but you just left the facility.

Now there is an app where families and caregivers can keep track of who has been to see the patients and….. to verify the information you have been told during your visit.
