Yesterday I attended a class at the Alzheimer Association to become a speaker on occasions for them. With me walked in a teenager who also took the course. He is 16 years old and his grandma has Alzheimer’s and he has seen from close by and now is determined to raise awareness for the cause. Great guy. In the link the Alzheimer’s Association which has such a wealth of resources that it should really be everyone’s first stop when confronted with the disease.

The National Institute on Aging has created a 44-page booklet with a checklist to make each room in the home a safer environment for someone with dementia. Alzheimer’s progresses differently in each person, but here are some general principles that may be helpful to everyone who is going to be involved in your alzheimer’s care.

Beer to help Alzheimer’s

The Alzheimer’s Association of Central and Western Kansas is teaming up with the Douglas Design District to raise money and awareness during June, which is Alzheimer’s and Brain Awareness Month.

Their main fundraiser, Ale to #EndAlz, runs from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Hopping Gnome, 1710 E. Douglas.

A firkin, or small cask, of specialty beer will be tapped for the evening, and all of those proceeds will be donated to the Alzheimer’s Association.
