Alzheimer; News from the web:

Alzheimer’s trial

  • The trial: 200 people globally with a family history of Alzheimer’s
  • The drug: Targets amyloids that build up and create plaques in the brain, it binds to them and is flushed from the brain preventing brain damage
  • Who it can help: Initially potentially people with a genetic predisposition but hopefully people with Alzheimer’s generally, Parkinson’s disease and other kinds of dementia

New Alzheimer’s Research at the University of New Mexico

Alzheimer; News from the web:

Researchers at the University of New Mexico Health Sciences Center say they are getting closer to a vaccine that could someday rescue people from Alzheimer’s.

Although still years away, the hope is it could treat or even prevent the disease, and at a lower cost than other potential cures being researched.

Assistant professor Kiran Bhaskar and his team have developed a vaccine that restores cognition in mice engineered to develop Alzheimer’s disease. It also reverses changes in their brains that indicate the presence of the disease.

This can not be good for Alzheimer’s

Alzheimer; News from the web:

Read this tale of lawsuits and accusations and you’ll start to understand that unfortunately not all who are involved in Alzheimer’s research are concerned with just finding a medicine but apparently the glory (or money) in finding the first real working medicine creates a situation where people and institutions are suing to get rights to a study or materials or volunteers or equipment all of which does not help Alzheimer’s and is counter to finding the best medicine.

I’m not even interested in who is right or who is wrong, I’m just disgusted by researchers and institutions wasting valuable time and money on fighting battles in court instead of fighting the battle with Alzheimer’s in the laboratory.

Very disappointing!
